Dear Me,

Good morning! I’m looking forward to hearing about the reasons you aren’t going to write today. One of your sons has put peanut butter in the other one’s hair before school and it’s going to make everyone late to get it out. Your power bill is a lot more than you thought and you’re going to have to work a different side gig to make up the difference. Your family member who is known for drama is being dramatic. Perhaps it’s just a ball of anxiety in your stomach that is causing you to fear writing so much that you can’t do it.

Before you share any of these reasons or come up with your own, I’m here to tell you that you can write those 500 words.

I don’t need 1000 words. I don’t even need 501. Just 500 will do. And again tomorrow.

I know the thoughts that are crippling you, so don’t try to make it perfect or viral. Do take the time to organize your thoughts, make it readable and relatable. Do proofread before you send it out. But if you get caught up with the idea of this being THE viral article, you won’t write it at all. You’ll just fixate on how much money you can make on that viral article and you’ll fall down a rabbit hole of other Medium writers and how much they made on THEIR viral articles. Then you’ll start thinking about how to spend that money and you’ll research saving vs. debt…
