If you’re on Medium, you’re probably here for one of a small handful of reasons:

  1. You want to be a writer and this is a place to share your ideas.
  2. You want to promote your business.
  3. You want to make money and you know other people make money here.
  4. Some combination of 1, 2 and 3.

If you do want to be a writer, what do you want to write? Do you want to write stories about how much money you made last month writing on Medium? Do you want to write about something else?

Something more?

Unfortunately, this has been something that frustrates many people on Medium- the clicks go to people who have unlocked the secrets of how to get viewers by trying to convince them to follow their business plan. This may or may not work for readers, but it definitely works for the writers.

Want to disrupt the system? Try this:

  1. Read on Medium: Spread out your monthly money to as many writers as you can. If you find someone that you love, read everything they write.
  2. Make rules for yourself: Choose NOT to click on the latest article about the person who got 10k views in a day with one weird trick. Pick something else. Pick something… more.
  3. Comment, clap and…

I am a writer, mother, scientist, and seeker of a meaningful life. Not necessarily in that order.
